World Café Summer 2013

World Café is a social event held every Friday evening during term time, between 7:30-10pm at Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Street, off Unthank Road, Norwich, NR2 2BJ. You can click here to see a map. From UEA you can catch the number 25 bus to the shops on Unthank Road. Holy Trinity Church is only a few minutes walk from here.

All international students over 16 years old are welcome to come to the World Cafe, from any religious background or none. If you’d like more information, please contact Lesley Brown on lesleybrown14@tiscali.co.uk

May 10	Norwich Music Festival/Games Leave Holy Trinity at 8pm to walk to the cathedral for this music evening OR stay warm playing games at World Café!

May 31	Indoor Rock Climbing or Crafts – The Choice is yours Be active or creative

June 14	Coffee, Cake, Chat & Church Nearly the end of World Café
June 21	Treasure Hunt around Norwich Meet at The Forum at 7.30pm, explore Norwich finding clues and return to The Forum for a drink.

Weekend Events

From time to time we have events and trips for international students in addition to our usual weekly activities. These include trips to local places of interest, walks, opportunities to get involved in events happening in and around Norwich, and opportunities to visit the home of an English family. Occasionally we also arrange a residential trip away for a few days to another British city.

This page has details of upcoming trips and events that you might be interetsted in. Some of these will have a small charge, depending on the activity. If you’d like to come on any of these trips, it is helpful if you let us know in advance so that we can make sure we have enough transport arranged! Saturday 18 May 2013 – Sheringham Park
Visit Sheringham Park and see the beautiful Rhododendron trees. Fish & chips afterwards by the beach.
Meet at UEA Security Lodge at 1.30pm. £3 plus £ for fish & chips.

Saturday 15 June 2013 – Vicar’s Tea Party
Come and have a BBQ in a Vicar’s garden. To be held in St Andrew’s Church vicarage garden.
Meet at UEA Security Lodge at 2pm. £Free.

International Women

There is an opportunity for female international students and wives/partners of international students to get together in a local home with local women to chat, relax and practice your English. Pre-school children are welcome to come too. We serve tea, coffee and cake/biscuits and some go on for lunch on campus afterwards.”

Saturday 5 January 2013 – New Year Celebration
Visit a local home ( a 500 year old house in a Norfolk village) to celebrate New Year. Food, games, a village walk & time to relax with friends.
Meet at UEA Security Lodge at 2.30pm, return around 8pm. £Free.

Sunday 10 February 2013 – Pancake Afternoon!
Come and eat pancakes and hear why they are eaten at this time of year. To be held in a local home.
£Free.

Saturday 16 March 2013 – Mountain Biking in Thetford Forest
An afternoon to explore the forest trails by bike and finish at a woodland café for hot chocolate.
Meet at UEA Security Lodge at 12.30pm, returning by 6pm. Cost £14 (including hiring a bike, helmet & transport)

Welcome Callows

Joel and Bekah Callow, and their three children, have recently arrived in Norwich to begin the role as staff workers. They have taken over from Angela Leeding who retired recently, after almost 13 years in that role. Though they themselves are “strangers” to this “fine” city, we pray that they will settle in quickly and find great blessing reaching out to students who visit from far and wide.

Au revoir, Angela

After 12 years as full-time Friends International worker in Norwich, Angela Leeding is retiring. Various opportunities will be held to give everyone involved with Friends International the chance to celebrate her work and ministry and to say “farewell” - or is it a more a case of “au revoir”?

She is being succeeded by Joel Callow, who with his wife, Bekah, and three children have recently returned to the UK from working with IFES in Greece.

All the Norwich team wish Angela well in all that she is looking to do in her “retirement” and thank God for all that He has enabled her to achieve in her time here.
